Ivanhoe + Pizza

  • Bar Open 5 PM (Happy Hour Prices)

  • Film Viewing | 6:30 PM

Makers’ Morning | 10 AM - 12 PM

Calling all makers—young, old, and in between! Whether you knit, sew, spin, crochet, paint, scrapbook, or enjoy any creative hobby, join us for a relaxed morning of crafting, coffee, and conversation. In true Swedish spirit, we gather to create and connect—much like a cozy fika, but with yarn, fabric, color, and friendship. Bring a project—and a friend! The more the merrier.

Our New Tradition: Ivanhoe & Pizza

In Sweden, New Year’s Day is famously relaxed—and for many families, it includes a cozy, much-loved ritual: watching the classic 1982 film Ivanhoe on television while enjoying pizza. Since 1988, Swedish public television has broadcast Ivanhoe every New Year’s Day, and its familiar scenes and music have come to signal a gentle pause after the excitement of New Year’s Eve.

Together, Ivanhoe and pizza represent a modern Swedish tradition of slowing down, gathering with family or friends, and easing into the year ahead with comfort and togetherness.

We’re putting our own spin on this tradition at the Swedish Club! While we’ll be celebrating on January 2nd, we’re embracing the spirit of the custom—sharing a beloved classic, good food, and great company. In true modern fashion, our evening includes pizza and salad, making it relaxed, social, and entirely our own.

Please note: You can enjoy the movie + bar, without ordering pizza.

Event Schedule

  • 5:00 PM – Bar opens: drinks to start the evening

  • 6:00 PM – Pizza and salad served: dig in and get comfy

  • 6:30 PM – Movie starts: Ivanhoe (1982 classic adventure)

Join us as we blend Swedish nostalgia with a culinary twist, creating a new tradition that celebrates friendship, adventure, and a shared love of movies.

Meet other storytellers and all those who enjoy the art of personal storytelling. Inspired by The Moth http://www.themoth.org/podcast, we get together at 7pm on the third Thursday of each month at the Swedish Club to share true stories about our lives that somehow changed how we saw ourselves or the world around us.

The best way to keep track of the show is by joining the Meetup group.

If you’re curious, you are free to come to the show whether you’re a Meetup member or not. Visit our Rules and Guidelines page to see what you’ll need to do to tell a story. *No rsvp, just show up!

Here is their Facebook page where Paul occasionally posts the audio of stories told at the show. For questions reach out to freshgroundstories@gmail.com.

New Monthly Dance at the Swedish Club after the Sunday Pancake Breakfasts!

This Fall, Skandia and the Swedish Club will co-sponsor Nordic dances after the Sunday pancake breakfasts at the Swedish Club.  The dances will be 1-3 pm on December 7, and January 4.

The dances will be fun and easy, including Waltz, Schottis, mixers, Hambo, and Telegangar.  Some short teaching sessions (mixers, Rørospols) will be interspersed through the afternoon.  On September 7 Skandia Kapell will provide live music.

The focus is on beginners; advanced dancers are welcome as well.  Singles and couples are welcome.  We will change partners frequently, and anybody can do either role.  Bring clean shoes to change into, with smooth soles and low flat heels for easy turning.  If you don't have dance shoes, we have dance socks to help you turn easily.

The cost for the dance will be $10.  Come eat pancakes and then dance!
