Transatlantic Dreaming: Sweden and the United States since 1850.

  • The Swedish Club 1920 Dexter Avenue North Seattle, WA, 98109 United States (map)

Please join us on Saturday, November 18, when Dag Blanck, Professor of North American Studies and Director of the Swedish Institute for North American Studies at Uppsala University, will visit the Swedish Club.

In this talk we will learn about the contemporary migration between Sweden and the United States, the relationship between the two countries and how they are mirrored in each other.

Dr. Blanck has been researching Swedish-American relations for many years. He has studied mass emigration to the United States and how Swedish-American ethnic identity was constructed around the turn of the century and influenced American society. He has studied how Sweden has been affected by and relates to the United States. He emphasizes that migration and modernity play a major role in understanding Swedish-American relations.

This event is a partnership between The Swedish Club and SWEA (The Swedish Women’s Educational Association). We will serve a light lunch of sandwiches, coffee, tea, and cookies. The cost for this event is $15. Payment can be made at the door, but we encourage all attendees to register online so we can make sure we have enough food.
