Did you know that a Swedish woman creatively connected the notion of the Nordic gnome with our own image of Santa Claus?
Join us as, Lori Ann Reinhall, editor-in-chief of The Norwegian American newspaper and longtime Club member, presents the history of Jenny Nyström (1854–1946). Nyström was the painter and illustrator who popularized the image of tomte and nisse throughout Scandinavia, a tradition that we also have come to know and love on this side of the Atlantic.
With this colorful presentation, you will not only experience Nyström’s work, but you will learn more about how Jul is celebrated in the Nordic countries. Bring the entire family and prepare to be delighted. Christmas treats will be served, and you may win a door prize—you guessed it—a giant Christmas elf!
